noun – the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.
Love is being kind to your neighbor. Get to know the people around you. The store cashier, your waitress, your actual next door neighbor. Be friendly, talk to them, ask them how their day is. Be generous, pay for the person’s coffee behind you in line. Mow your neighbors lawn. Keep an eye on their house when they are out of town. Be considerate. Don’t park in front of their mailbox or let your dog do his business in their yard. Let someone go ahead of you at the grocery store. There are many ways to show love to our neighbors through kindness. I believe, however, that we can get in such a hurry to get our own things done that we don’t stop to even consider showing kindness towards others. How can you be kind to a neighbor today?
Love is being kind to your family. Many times our families seem to get the wrath of our frustrations. If we’re mad at our boss, we don’t normally yell at them, instead we go home and take it out on our children or our spouse. We don’t realize that our day would get much better if we came home and showed kindness to our family instead. I believe many of us just assume our family should know we love them so we don’t put any effort into keeping them in our lives like we may do with friends. Yet when our children move away, or when our spouse is tired of being treated wrong, we’re going to really wish we had shown them more love by being kind. Love on your family today through kindness.
Love is being kind to God. Yes, it’s true, we can treat God with un-kindess and many people do. Using His name in vain, throwing it out there like a curse word. Blaming Him for things that we have brought on ourselves. Only talking to Him when we really need something. We need to be kind to God just like we need to be kind to our friends and family. We need to have a relationship with God which comes from visiting with Him daily, loving on Him, showing Him respect, praising Him for ALL things.
God has gone way out of His way to show us His love through kindness. (Remember, kindness is the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate). God came to earth in the flesh to befriend us sinners. Giving His life as a sacrifice for ours, which was an extremely generous gift! And He is considerate of the fact that we just can’t do it on our own so He allows Himself to live inside of us to be our helper. God is so kind! Shouldn’t we be?
Love it patient, love is kind….
“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
