beyourselfYou will always be able to look around and find someone more talented than you, more gifted than you, stronger than you, wiser than you, better looking than you.  It’s a given, if you look for it, you WILL find it.  We all seem to do this at some point, but why?  Is it to be discouraged and give up on being anything or anyone?  Or is it to motivate us to do better, become famous or more important?  Why do we compare ourselves with everyone else in the world?

God made each of us unique and the only way we can become the best US we can be is to stop comparing ourselves.  Start searching for the great talents and giftings, the strengths and wisdom, and the beauty that is in YOU!  Then allow that to motivate you to do everything God has planned for you from the beginning.

How do you this, you might ask?  Dig into God’s word.  Spend time reading it and meditating on it.  Allow GOD to show you who you are and be satisfied with the fact that HE knows your name!  That’s the best fame one can acquire!

One of my favorite songs out right now is by Francesca Battistelli and the chorus says this…

I don’t need my name in lights
I’m famous in my Father’s eyes
Make no mistake
He knows my name
I’m not living for applause
I’m already so adored
It’s all His stage
He knows my name

God knows your name, He knows how He can use you, what He can use you for, where He can use you and who He can use you to reach.  Trying to be what someone else is won’t make you usable.

Oh, don’t worry; we wouldn’t dare say that we are as wonderful as these other men who tell you how important they are! But they are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measurement. How ignorant!2 Corinthians 10:12

Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. – Galatians 6:4

God of second chancesDo you ever feel like you’ve already missed the boat or even got on the wrong one completely?  That you have totally missed out on your purpose?  Maybe you have gotten so far off the path God has set for you, that you assume there’s no way back.  The storms of life keep beating you up but you just keep heading further into trouble.

Did you know that God is a God of second chances? It’s never too late to do what God has called you to do. If the enemy can make you believe it’s too late, you’re going to miss out.  And not only you, but what about all those people God has placed in your path?

Jonah didn’t just get off the path, he RAN off of it and the total opposite way.  There was a WHOLE CITY whose fate lied in the balance over this one man and he could have totally missed it.  He could have just kept running and let the storms kill him, but no…he cried out to the Lord in repentance and the Bible says “Then the Lord spoke to Jonah a second time:  “Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh, and deliver the message I have given you.” – Jonah 3:1-2

If you think you’ve totally missed the boat….ask God to send you another one but this time, go where He sends you.

I’M BACK :-)

lace and skyWow, it’s been a week since my last post!  Amazing what some freezing temps will do to you.  This time of year my hubby and I like to pull the mattresses out into the living room and cuddle in front of the fire and the Christmas tree with our kiddos.  (Yes, I said Christmas tree.)  Anyway…it’s been really hard to get up early in the morning when we’re all snuggled together in the living room.  Not to mention, my job has been more demanding than usual this week.

Plus, I took a rode trip this weekend with my daughter, my cousin, and my niece to see Andrew Wommack.  Which was AWESOME. Had a wonderful time, ate sushi, received a great word, saw prayers answered, and drove back home in the middle of the night. I don’t think I recovered from that for at least a day. 🙂

However, regardless of the still freezing temps, I’m caught up on work, rested and back at it! And I just want to say thank you so much for reading my blog!  I pray God uses me to speak to you in a way that would encourage you to dig deeper into His word and have a passion to serve Him and love Jesus with all your heart!  Have a blessed day!

engagement ringAfter you get engaged to that “special someone”, do you then just ignore them, go about doing you’re own thing, even dating other people until the wedding date?  I mean, you already have the ring and you know it’s a done deal so do you really need to waste the engagement period getting to know them better? You’re going to spend the rest of your life with them anyway, right? Besides, you have mutual friends who can tell you about them.  Matter of fact, it was a family member who introduced you, so they probably know enough about them to keep you in the loop.

However, if this is the case then the first good looking, sweet talking thing that comes along and offers you everything you ever dreamed of, will easily make you forget about your first love. They could and probably would even convince you to call off your engagement.

Many Christians are doing this exact same thing with Jesus. They become His bride, they know they are secure to live with Him forever and that’s good enough for them.  They go about the rest of their lives here on earth ignoring Him, doing their own thing, and worshiping others. They are satisfied with just hearing about Christ through other people instead of spending time with Him themselves. They know nothing about their Groom and how He feels towards them.  They have no idea the depth of His love nor the home He has prepared for them.

So tell me this…how easy is it going to be for some sly charming individual to convince you that they can give you the life you’ve always dreamed of and all you have to do is denounce Christ?  How easily will you be deceived if you don’t really know the heart of your Lord?  And how can you know THAT if you’re not spending time with Him?

The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy.  Just because you have believed on Jesus Christ doesn’t mean the devil is through with you. There was a video out just recently where someone was forced to deny Christ so that his life would be spared.  He did it, he denounced Jesus Christ and guess what…his life was NOT spared.  Had he known for certain the eternal life God had waiting for him, would he have chosen this life over it?

I pray that this time never comes for any of us but it is getting closer and closer to home.  I would rather be a prepared bride, getting to know my groom, falling in love with Him more every minute and looking forward to my wedding day with every ounce of my being.  I don’t want to leave even a chance of someone trying to convince me not to show up.

Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to Him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself.Revelations 19:7

penguinA penguin wasn’t designed to fly.  It could spend it’s whole life trying, but it wasn’t in the Maker’s plan for it to fly, so unless it jumps on an airplane, it’s just not going to happen.  Even then, at some point it would have to come back down.  However, a penguin WAS designed to shoot through the water like a torpedo and glide down the ice on it’s belly.  Have you ever watched penguins at play?  It’s pretty fascinating and looks really fun.  But if one of those penguins just sat there staring up at the sky wishing they could fly, they would miss out on doing the wonderful things God designed THEM to be doing.

Human beings were designed to be in communion with God, spending time with Him and loving on Him.  We can spend our whole lives running and trying to separate ourselves from God.  We can use our gifts and talents to put us in the spotlight, make us rich and famous, or to impress other people but in the end, we’re going to miss out.  We’ll never find that long lasting joy and happiness because we’re not doing what we were designed to do.   We have to stop spending this short time here on earth satisfying our own selfish and sinful desires.

What are your gifts and talents?  What special abilities do you have? Once you realize what these are…thank God for them, trust Him, and use them to glorify Christ and lead others to do the same.

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

give thanksHave you ever wondered, “How can I give thanks to God?” Psalm 119:7 says, “As I learn your righteous regulations, I will THANK YOU by living as I should.”

So we show gratitude towards God when we are living as we should. How should we live?

1. Believe in Jesus and receive what He has done for you.
2. Listen to the Holy Spirit as He directs your steps.
3. Love everyone.

Boom! You’ve made yourself a living thank you card to God.

IMG_29244950688577Are you desiring a higher position at work so you can have a positive influence into people’s lives or because you’ve already imagined that bigger pay check?

Are you wanting that bigger paycheck to help meet your needs and the needs of others or because you’ve already imagined yourself in a new car?

Are you wanting that new car because you need reliable transportion for you and family or because you want to make a good impression on other people?

There’s nothing wrong with wanting things but don’t just assume God isn’t real or isn’t fair just because you don’t have all that you desire.

“Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.” – James 4:2-3 NLT

f9d0ba161d1a874bbc7096808784de73“When troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.” – James 1:2.  That’s good news!  That doesn’t mean God wants you to have troubles but being that we live in a world full of darkness and Christians are being persecuted more and more, troubles are bound to come. Your faith will be tested.  So you may be asking,  where does this great joy come from then?  Well the next verse says, “for you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”

Endurance is “the power of enduring an unpleasant or difficult situation without giving way.”  So endurance gives you the strength to stand on God’s word even when everyone else is against you.  Endurance gives you the assurance that you can speak the word of God in it’s entirety without changing it to be “politically correct”.  Endurance keeps you from allowing any threat to cause you to denounce your faith in Jesus Christ.  Do we need endurance?  Yes!

Now this kind of endurance doesn’t only come from troubles.  You build endurance by meditating on the word of God, worshiping Christ with thanksgiving, speaking to God, allowing God to speak to you, obeying the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Those are the best ways to build endurance against this fallen world.  So don’t think you HAVE to go through troubles to build your endurance.  What I’m trying to encourage here is when you DO have troubles don’t allow them to bring you down, slow you down, or just plain stop you from doing the will of God.

Can you imagine having so much physical endurance that you were like Forest Gump just running and running and running.  Nothing could stop you, you just ran and ran and did it so well that people began running with you?  Sad thing about Forest Gump was that he didn’t have a destination, at some point he just stopped and said he was done.  He led his followers no where.

View your troubles as a good thing!  Use them to build your endurance.  Keep running…keep leading others, because you do have a destination!

Who-Are-You-FollowingI absolutely love the story about Elijah and the prophets at Mount Carmel.  That’s the one where Elijah challenges them to see who is the one true God.  You can read it in 1 Kings 18:20-40.  It’s awesome.  What stuck out to me today though was this quote from Elijah.  He stands in front of King Ahab, all the people of Israel, and all the prophets and says, “How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions?  If the Lord is God, follow Him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!”

We are constantly wavering between the gods in our lives.  You have to decide, which god will you follow?

If the Lord is God, follow him!  But if your spouse is God, follow him! If money is God, follow him!  If a career is God, follow him!  If fame is God, follow him!  But before you follow any of them, find out which God is going to ignite IN you a fire that causes you to die to your old self and your old ways and make you BETTER!  Which one is going to come through for you ALWAYS?  Which one will NEVER fail you?  Which one will NEVER leave you?  Which one can PROMISE you eternal life?

There’s only ONE, yet we waver so much between the God OF this world and the gods IN this world.  It’s become so common for us to say, “God wants me to follow Him there…but I’d really like to stay with this person over here and God wants me happy so I’ll stay.”  No…we need to stop at, “God wants me to follow Him there!” and GO!

Test God…put your everything into him like Elijah did.  He risked his life to challenge these prophets and he was so confident he even mocked them as they poured out EVERYTHING to that god of theirs.  We should be following God like this.  Not man, not money, not riches or fame, but God the Almighty who sent His one and only Son to die for YOU.  He is all that matters and everything else here on earth should be used to teach others to follow Him.
