caringHave you ever beat yourself up over what other people think of you?  It may be just because they looked at you wrong,  or quit talking to you all of a sudden, or worse yet…they didn’t like your FACEBOOK status!

Maybe you have been racking your brain trying to figure out what you did and what to do to make it better.  Maybe you think, “If they only knew my heart”.

Well, would you believe that caring about what people think of you may just be a plan of the enemy?  It could actually paralyze you from doing the things God has called you to.  There are so many people in our lives it would be impossible to please them all anyway.  So why do we keep trying?  Instead, let’s focus on pleasing just ONE….not just ANYONE, but THE One.

1 Thessalonians 2:4 says, ” For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News.  Our purpose is to please God, not people. He ALONE examines the motives of our hearts.”

Now with that being said, does it mean we can go about doing and saying whatever we want to people because it doesn’t matter what they think of us?  Of course not.   That’s why this verse is so important.  Psalms 139:23-24 which says, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends You, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”

We should care SO much about people that what they think of US, doesn’t matter.

reachingMark 16:15 says, “And then He told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.”

But I’m just a stay at home mom with 3 children…how can I go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone?? By starting where God tells me to. Today, my blog was read by someone in the United Kingdom and last month, someone in India! I’m so excited to see how far God’s hand extends through this ministry! Thank You Jesus for small beginnings! If God has called you to pick up your staff….do it…even if you don’t know what to do with it yet.

miptwitterDon’t you just love when someone starts a conversation off with, “Hey, don’t take it personal, but…”  and then it’s followed by something just down right rude?

Well, I’m just gonna be blunt, I have something to say and I DO want you to take it personal!  So get ready.

YOU have a PURPOSE and God has a PLAN and He sent His Son to die on the cross to make sure those plans were fulfilled, He made it PERSONAL!

When Jesus prayed in agony, sweat blood, and said, “Father, Your will be done, not mine” He was thinking of YOU.

When the Roman soldiers were scourging his back with leather straps embedded with metal and glass…He was thinking of YOU.

When the nails were being driven through His hands and feet…again, He was thinking of YOU.

And when His shredded body hung up on that splintery wooden cross, enduring more pain than one can imagine…He was STILL thinking of YOU.

So I think it’s very safe to say…this was personal.

Now it’s our chance to love others enough to tell them to take it personal.  EVERYONE needs to know that Jesus came to personally invite each of us to live with Him in Heaven for eternity.

So next time someone says, “Hey, don’t take it personal…but”, jump in and use it!  Just say, “No worries, the only thing I take personal is what Christ did on the cross for me and you should too.  Now let me tell you why…”

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent His Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through Him.” -John3:16-17

confidenceIt’s been said many times, “You just need more self confidence!” However, the world is FULL of self confident people and look where that has taken us. It’s foolish to be completely confident in ourselves (someone less than perfect) yet we try.  We even encourage each other to be that way.

What happens when our confidence is in our strength, and our health fails us? What if our confidence is in our looks, and make-up doesn’t do the trick anymore? Or maybe our confidence is in our ability to make friends, and one of them turns their back on us. What if our confidence is in how good we are at our job, and the company shuts down? What happens to our self confidence then, when these things are snatched away?

You’re probably asking yourself….where’s the encouraging word here??  Well, here it is…

We don’t need SELF confidence…we can put all of our confidence in CHRIST.  Then we become Christ Confident People.  People who are relying COMPLETELY on the only perfect human being that ever walked this earth…Jesus.

Then you realize, HE is your strength (that never fails), HE is your Creator and He made you beautiful, HE is your best friend and will NEVER leave you, HE is your provider will supply ALL of your needs!

When you become Christ Confident, life just gets a whole lot sweeter!

“We rely on what Christ Jesus has done for us. We put no confidence in human effort” – Philippians 3:3

siren2Every Saturday when we have our Good Book Prayer Brunch, we walk out to our cars just as the noon alarm test is going off right over our heads!  It’s so loud and it goes off for 3 straight minutes! However, instead of jumping in our cars and leaving, we have to wait it out so we can finish talking.  Hey, we’re women!

If you have no idea what sirens I’m talking about….click here for a sample. (But turn your speakers all the way up plus maybe some added amplifiers to get the full effect!!)

Anyway! This Saturday as my mom and were are holding our ears, irritated and annoyed at this awful sound, I was reminded about the purpose of those sirens.   I thought about how grateful we are, especially living in Oklahoma, to have them go off during tornado season.  So why am I so aggravated with something that has the ability to save my life?  Because that day, the skies were clear, and the sun was shining.  It wasn’t something I needed to hear right then.

This reminded me of how annoyed people can get when you try to share God’s word with them.  All they are hearing is an annoying sound in their ear because they don’t feel like it’s relevant for them at this time.  Life is good, skies are clear.  However, they are the same people that are asking for prayer when the storms hit.

We should depend on and be grateful for those test sirens going off every Saturday and every Wednesday at noon…because they are of such great importance. They help SAVE lives.

Even more so, we should depend on and be grateful for those people sharing the love of Christ with us every Sunday and every Wednesday (and hopefully every day of the week)…because they are sharing something of great importance that helps SAVE lives.

Are you annoyed by the warning sirens?  Are you grateful for the warning sirens or are YOU a warning siren?

Jesus IS coming, that’s a fact.  We don’t know when, so we have to be ready and we need to be a warning siren for our friends and family. Are you willing to be annoying if it will help save a life?

“So you, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day your Lord is coming.  Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would keep watch and not permit his house to be broken into.  You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.” – Matthew 24:42-44

demon-possessed-pigs (1)Why are Christian’s persecuted so much?  Why is it that people who want to tell others about the love of Jesus are hated?  Why is it when you’re trying to help, you are called judgmental?  Why are you scoffed at if you choose not to follow the world and it’s ways?

The same reason the people begged Jesus to leave them alone when he healed a possessed man and cast his demons into a herd of pigs. People say they were mad because they cared so much about the livestock.  I know that livestock was a big thing back then but I don’t believe that’s the only reason they were frightened and wanted Jesus to go.  Were the pigs really THAT important??   It says, “a great wave of fear swept over them.” I believe they were afraid of having their OWN demons exposed and removed.

I’ve seen this happen so often (especially in youth ministry).  A student may come to church every week then as soon as an issue they are dealing with is mentioned, they disappear.  When someone’s not ready to let go of something, they don’t want to be around anyone that may convince them otherwise.

What they don’t understand is, it’s not about the junk your dealing with, it’s not about the PIGS!  It’s about the MAN who was freed from his demons and ready to walk away from everything to follow Jesus.   It’s about helping others to be released from a life of bondage and become excited to walk with Christ.

So don’t stop speaking God’s word if you are persecuted for serving Jesus.  Don’t stop having a heart for people and a desire to see them freed from a sinful lifestyle.  You may have to move on to the next person, one who is ready to be free, but don’t stop.  If Jesus wasn’t accepted somewhere, he moved on to the next town.  Matter of fact, he told His disciples in Matthew 10:14“If any household or town refuses to welcome you or listen to your message, shake its dust from your feet as you leave.”

Too many believers are becoming paralyzed by persecution and convinced that sharing God’s word is wrong.   Where do you stand?

“Then the demons came out of the man and entered the pigs, and the entire herd plunged down the steep hillside into the lake and drowned. “And all the people in the region of the Gerasenes begged Jesus to go away and leave them alone, for a great wave of fear swept over them. The man who had been freed from the demons begged to go with Him.” – Luke 8:33, 37-38

jesus satisfiesI’m just going put it plain and simple…until we have found ourselves completely satisfied by the love Jesus showed to us when He gave His life on the cross, we will still be incomplete.  We will still be searching for, longing for, fighting for that man or woman who we THINK completes us. We will constantly be hoping and dreaming that they’re out there…somewhere… and that once we find them, THEN we will know true love.

Sorry, that’s just not the case.  Now don’t let this crash your dreams of meeting that special one that God has for you.  I’m just saying that THEY will not be the one who completes you and they cannot be the one who satisfies you.  My husband spoke on this Sunday. He said, “Only the One who made you, can complete you.”  I love that and it’s so absolutely true.

We should be complete BEFORE we enter into a relationship with someone else.  God is our designer, we are His masterpiece.  We need to fall in love with HIM.  We need to be satisfied with the love He has to offer us, the joy He has for us, and the blessings He is longing to pour out on us.  No other human being can provide that kind of comfort.  Quite frankly, it’s nor fair for us to even expect that from someone else.  Yet we do it all the time.  We go into relationships thinking that person completes us and when we finally realize they don’t, the search is on again trying to find one who does.

Save yourself the heartache….be complete in Christ first.  Don’t settle for anyone who isn’t.  Jesus is the ONLY one who satisfies!

“I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding.  For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return.  May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ[a]—for this will bring much glory and praise to God” – Philippians 1:9-11 NLT
