Thats all folks“Yay!  Jesus rose from the dead! He conquered death, I’m saved! The end.” Even though, that would be enough, is that all?  No….there is so much more and whether you call it “Easter” or “Resurrection Sunday”,  there is such significance in what we are celebrating this weekend.

After Jesus came back and appeared to His disciples, he told them this: “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned.”

The resurrection was just the beginning.  Now it’s our responsibility to go share this news with everyone.  Jesus lets us know that if we believe and others really believe…this will happen: These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”

Now I know that there are some religions that take this very literally and they purposely handle poisonous snakes just to show that they believe, but I don’t think Jesus was telling them to go try this.  And anyone who purposely drinks poison just to show they believe, would be foolish.

Now can we be protected from snakes and poison?  Yes I believe we can, we’re just not supposed to test God like that.  Satan came disguised as a snake.  Satan is our enemy.  I believe Jesus is telling us that we will be able to handle our enemies with safety.  And I believe the “drinking anything poisonous” could refer to curses that may be spoken over us.  If we believe, then those poisonous words will not hurt us.

So, if you are standing safely in the presence of your enemies, if you are being slandered, ridiculed, and cursed and still have peace and joy, if you are laying hands on the sick and seeing them healed, and if you are casting out demons and speaking in tongues, I think there would be enough evidence to show that you believe, don’t you? Jesus said that these things will happen, why would we not trust Him and live this way?  He even left us with the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide us every step of the way.

Speaking of the Holy Spirit…He spoke these words to my friend, Megan yesterday for her to share with our other friend. “If you gave your life for me, Lisa, I would be forever indebted to you and your family and honoring who you were and are to me. I pray we give Jesus that same respect this weekend. Honoring Him and His people”

Jesus gave His life for us and this weekend is a reminder of that.  Are you forever indebted to Him and His Father and are you showing it by honoring who He is to you?  Are miraculous signs accompanying you?

Celebrate this Resurrection Sunday  with more passion than you ever have before.  Celebrate the fact that Jesus took on our sins, our suffering, and our condemnation, then conquered Hell, came back to life, gave us the option to accept Him or not and then left us with a gift that would empower us to do His will on earth.  That’s GOOD NEWS!  That’s something to be passionate about! Let’s celebrate!
