Why is it that women give up their our own bodies to be accepted by a man, just to find out they’re not acceptable?
Why is it that we will do anything to please people, even if it means displeasing God?
Why do men/women seek the approval of others so much that they risk their time with family and their time with God, just to climb up the corporate ladder?
Why do we use our gifts and talents only for the entertainment of others?
Why will we spend hours receiving everyone else’s thoughts, views, or advice via social media, television, books, music, etc. and not even give God a single moment to share His thoughts with us?
We try to do and please and do and please (not always because we have such a kind loving heart, but) because that’s usually what it takes to get anything from anyone. Just like in your job. Your boss expects you to do a job and you expect to get a paycheck. You don’t do your job, you don’t get a paycheck. If you do your job and don’t get a paycheck, you’re not going to do your job next time.
So we have been trained that you have to do something for someone if you want something from someone and I believe that has made it hard for us to accept what God wants from us.
HE JUST WANTS YOU! God wants to fellowship with you. He wants You to get to know Him. He doesn’t need your gifts or talents or your money. He just wants your attention so He can show you how important You are to Him. God wants to have an intimate relationship with you. He wants to introduce His Son to You and invite you to dine with Him. He wants to talk to you and share the plans that HE has for you. Then as He watches your desires turn into His desires (which are always way better than ours) He wants to see you go live them out because YOU choose to, not because you HAVE to, not because the WORLD wants you to.
Until you can get past being concerned about what everyone THINKS about you and find out what God KNOWS about you, there will be a void in your life.
Until you can understand that God just wants to spend time sharing His heart with you, you will waste a lot of time doing things for God that He didn’t even create you to do.
Galatians 1:10 Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.
Romans 12:1-2 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind He will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship Him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
