This month, I got a little behind on preparing for the Proverbs 31 Lady Bible study. Thank God I could rely on the Holy Spirit to lead it! So that morning I admitted to God that I had no idea what to talk about (which of course, He knew…because I hadn’t asked Him.) Soooo, I asked God, “Lord what do You want to say to Your daughters today?” This is what I believe He said and I wanted to share it with all parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and guardians because I believe it is a great word for all of us. Here goes:
“Get out there and shake the world! Do it through your kids! Teach them how to lead – to be leaders not followers. Light their flame. Be the one who ignites them every morning, inspiring them to get into the word of God. Encouraging them through love, to be on fire for the things I have for them. Be their example. How can you pass on a flame if you’re not lit yourself?”
The God began using an example. He said, “If a friend of yours wanted to know more about your husband, who would they come to? You! Why? Because you have a noticeable obvious relationship with him, a close and intimate relationship. Someone could find out a lot about your husband through you. They would know that you know what you’re talking about because you live with him. Is it evident that I live with you? Do your kids KNOW that they can come to you and find out about ME? Is the way you live your life a good representation that I am taking care of you? Do they want what you have?”
Then I heard Hebrews 11:5 and had to go look it up to see what it said. This is it… “It was by faith that Enoch was taken up to Heaven without dying. “He disappeared because God took him. For before he was taken up he was KNOWN AS A PERSON WHO PLEASED GOD.
You have to ask yourself, are you constantly complaining to your kids about money – or people? Are you worried all the time about tomorrow? Are you angry with your kids all the time? Do you look down upon them anytime they mess up? Are you announcing their failures to the world? Do you think God does that to us? Do you think God does that to THEM? No. So why are we?
I would rather my kids know they can come to me when they make a mistake then to be afraid to because they know I will go announce it to everyone. If our kids can’t trust us with every aspect of their life, they may feel as though they can’t trust God. So many times, a relationship with our heavenly Father and how we see Him, is based on how our parents treat us. I’m not saying we are completely responsible for our kids’ relationship with God, but it can definitely start with us. We need to be a light for the world….but let’s start by lighting up our homes.
“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.” – Matthew 5:14-15
