Self-Made Success And Proud Of It!

One day a boy and his dad were building a tree house together. The boy was trying to carry the heavy wooden planks but he kept dropping them.  His dad offered to help and his son replied, “No dad, I got it!” He struggled and struggled until finally asking, “Dad…can you grab a couple of these?”  His dad smiled and helped.  They began working (his dad teaching him how to safely use the saw) and they built a beautiful tree house together! However, the ladder was built too high up on the tree.  The boy jumped as high as he could and yet he couldn’t reach it.  Finally the boy asked…”Dad, can you lift me up?”  The dad replied, “Of course, and while you’re up there how about I add another step to the ladder?”

A couple weeks went by and they were playing at the beach together. The boy was building a sand castle, but with every attempt he made, the castle continued to fall. He tried and tried to do it all by himself but finally had to ask his daddy for help. Dad showed him how to add a little more water and put a little more force behind it and they built the best castle on the beach that day!

Years went by and this determined young man continued to try and do everything without the help of his father.  His dad was always there and willing to help but gave his boy the freedom to try things on his own.  The boy was growing more and more independent as the years went by and with every self-made accomplishment, he grew further and further away from the close relationship he and his dad once had.

The boy grew up to be an owner of a large construction company.  He was very proud of his accomplishments and asked his dad to come visit a building they were in the process of constructing.  As the dad and his son were walking through the construction site, a crane operator accidently released a giant beam from above that came crashing down on top of his son.  He was trapped and the dad was unable to reach him.  Still a determined and stubborn young man, he believed he had enough strength on his own to push the beam off of him.  His dad was standing along the side yelling, “Give me your hand! I can pull you out!”  His son, replied, “I got this dad!”  Yet with every effort the boy made…his dad could hear his son’s breath getting less and less. The dad stood there helpless, panicking and full of fear he cried out, “Son!  Reach out your hand!”  The boy pushed out enough breath to say, “I made it this far without you.”  The dad was now crushed…he dropped to his knees, tears rolling down his face and with one last attempt said, “Son, I can’t help, if you won’t let me!”

Bones could now be heard cracking. Severe pain and immense pressure now leaving the boy almost breathless he flashed back to his dad teaching him how to build a tree house, how to make a sand castle that would stand, and many other moments that actually formed him into the man he was.  His pride now stricken from him, he gained enough strength to reach his hand out from under the beam.  His dad’s eyes opened wide and without hesitation pulled his son out into the safety of his arms!

Matthew 16:25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.

Psalm 57:2 I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill His purpose for me.

Our Heavenly Father has created you and molded you for a purpose but He will never force His will upon you, yet He will always be there to help you when you allow Him too!  Don’t ever forget the One who placed your gifts and talents inside of you.

“The World Is Like A Hologram”

I received this word from the Lord on July 2nd after asking Him what He wanted me to share with the children at our church that morning. I felt led to share it with our congregation as well and a couple people asked for a copy of it so I’m going to share it here. I found it interesting that today on Klove they were talking about how in 10 years, televisions would be obsolete and replaced with holographic glasses instead.
Here’s the word.
“I want them to know the truth. The truth is I set them free! They are Mine but they have a choice to be accepted by Me or not. If they choose to be Mine they get to experience on Earth everything that I have stored up for them in Heaven. All the treasures are theirs! A life worth living is only lived as My child! The world and all its “amazement and wonder” has nothing to offer you. It’s like a hologram, you see it and you want it and it looks so awesome then when you finally get to it it’s fake and empty. Please Don’t Run Away chasing things that were never made for you. Matter of fact, they were designed to hurt you and lead you away from Me. Taste and see that what I have for you is good!”

What’s On The Menu?

Don’t shelter your kids.  If you do, they won’t know what hits them when they go out into the “real world.” They need to experience life. Let them be exposed to what’s out there.  I grew up in church then went crazy in the world, but I came back to church and got on the right path…they’ll be fine.

As homeschool parents who keep our kids with us as much as humanly possible and tries to preserve their innocence as much as we can WHILE we can.  I hear those things mentioned above and I cringe!  I’m sure most of those words even came out of my OWN MOUTH a few years back. Because this is how our oldest daughter was raised.  Praise God my perspective has changed and praise God she didn’t stray TOO FAR off the path and she is married and serving as a leader with her husband in our church.  Yes, it can work out that way….but she didn’t have to experience the things she did.

Now we’re raising her 2 younger siblings and we’re following some GOOD advice! I heard these two statements that really touched my heart and I’ve been wanting to share them.

“I have 18 years to instill everything I can into my children before they go out on their own. In a world that is trying to corrupt them with lies and temptations, it is OUR JOB to shield them, to hide them in a safe environment and to BE THE FILTER through which they learn things. We’re here to give them roots. Like a seedling in a greenhouse, we’re not keeping them from the inevitable; we’re PREPARING THEM to thrive!”Jentezen Franklin

“I want to establish their appetite BEFORE they are handed the menu.” – Gregg Johnson – founder of J12 ministries.

I absolutely love their perspective on parenting and it’s biblical!

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. – Proverbs 22:6

Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in Him!Psalm 34:8

Instill truth, purity, love, honesty, patience, joy, kindness and forgiveness through the word of God and your kids will be prepared for anything the world wants to throw at them.  They won’t be caught off guard and have the desire to experience “something new”.  They will be appalled by it and shine a light will be so bright – darkness won’t stand a chance!

Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” John 18:12

Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.Psalm 119:105

Lord, help me to raise my children by Your Word giving them the desire to know You themselves and establish their own relationship with You. Holy Spirit show me who my children were created to be! In Jesus’ name, I pray….AMEN!

Don’t Give the Enemy the Time Of Day!

My dad finished his last radiation treatment today! I’m so happy for him as well as extremely proud. When the doctor diagnosed him with cancer, he took the news like the champion he is! First thing he said is, “I know who my Healer is.”  He may have had an attack on his body, but he did not allow it to steal the peace and joy that God has placed in him. I think that’s HUGE!

He’s been having these treatments for 9 weeks now and when I shared that it was over today many people including a lot of family were surprised because they hadn’t heard anything about it.  So I wanted to kind of explain why that is.

When the enemy attacks whether it be with sickness, poverty, or maybe even from our own mistakes, we don’t see the need to shout it from the rooftops.  Why give the enemy that kind of glory?  Why give the devil a foothold by announcing the damage he is trying to cause, just to allow others to give their input into why this might be happening? (Lessons from Job, maybe??)

When the enemy attacks us physically, mentally, or emotionally we lean on our Lord for guidance and we confide in those closest to us for prayer and support.  In this case with my dad, he told his kids, his girlfriend and his siblings.  He felt that was enough and so did we.

Too many people throw all of their garbage out there for all to see and Satan just has a hey day with that.  What I want to announce to the world are the VICTORIES!  The fact that my dad went through 9 weeks of radiation and the only people who knew were those directly involved is a victory!  That tells me that my dad NEVER lost his peace!  This is not to bring condemnation to anyone who has went through this and struggled. I’m sure it’s not an easy thing to have to go through at all.

I mean this to be an encouragement to anyone going through something or who may go through something in the future.  Don’t give the devil even a pinky toe into your life.  Stand on God’s word that He will NEVER leave you, He will FIGHT for you and you WILL overcome!  Not everyone is going to be in agreement with you on this so take heed to what you proclaim and the influences and voices you allow to come into your life and your situation.

Psalm 8
1 O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!
Your glory is higher than the heavens.
2 You have taught children and infants
to tell of your strength, silencing your enemies
and all who oppose you.
3 When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—
the moon and the stars you set in place—
4 what are mere mortals that you should think about them,
human beings that you should care for them?
5 Yet you made them only a little lower than God
and crowned them with glory and honor.
6 You gave them charge of everything you made,
putting all things under their authority(this includes cancer)
7 the flocks and the herds
and all the wild animals,
8 the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea,
and everything that swims the ocean currents.
9 O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!

(emphasis mine)

Is God Really Enough?

Romans 15:13
“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

I asked God what He wanted to say today.  Here goes…..

“I am enough. I have all that you need. Just ask. You don’t mind when your kids ask for something to eat and I don’t mind when you ask me for ANYTHING. I want to give it to you.  More so, I want you to RECEIVE it. Stop feeling guilty for coming to me for things. If your child was in need or even in want of something, you wouldn’t want them coming to you as a beggar. You would want them to come before you confident that they CAN…JUST BECAUSE you love them. I LOVE YOU! I want only the best for you and I know what that is!”

Sometimes the only reason we’re not receiving is because we simply can’t accept what He has to offer.

A friend was telling me about her son wanting some really expensive shoes. The dad was ready to get them for him, but the mom (knowing how often she is replacing shoes) was having a hard time stomaching the fact of spending so much on something that would be torn up so quickly. Just as they had decided to buy him the shoes, he started feeling guilty and decided he didn’t want them to spend that amount of money on him. However…the parents were willing! They WANTED to bless their son with something he wanted. Because of the guilt…he ALMOST missed out on the blessing. We do that….A LOT!

Now will we ALWAYS get what we WANT when we ask?

We love when our kid ask the right questions at the right times, but sometimes they ask the right questions at the wrong times. Maybe they’re not old enough to understand the information they want to know.  Maybe they THINK they are ready yet they can’t process some things correctly and we as parents know this, so we withhold things out of love. We know though, that when they ARE ready…we will have THAT talk. Our kids will understand this IF they know we love them and want only what’s best for them. Psalm 84:11 For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. (What is right? Trusting in God…trusting that He is a good God!)

Can your kids trust you? Do you treat them with respect? Have you made yourself available to them for any questions or would they rather go to a friend or a parent’s friend to get answers? Are they going to be looking to have their “needs met” somewhere else? Here’s the thing….are our kids confident that we will take care of them no matter what? We would hope so, right?

That’s how we MUST be about Abba Father! I know that my Daddy God loves me and I can confidently go to Him and ask Him for things – for answers. I’m not scared of what He’s going to think about me asking. He doesn’t make me feel ashamed or condemned or unworthy. He is my Daddy and that’s why He adopted me – to take care of me and watch me grow into the woman He created me to be.

I think about my husband adopting my daughter. He WANTED to be her daddy and take care of her. She has always known she was CHOSEN by him and there has always been a special bond between them…..a daddy’s girl type of bond. She’s always been able to come to either of us for anything….the only time she didn’t was when she felt guilty about something. And even that was a plan of the enemy to bring distance between us. However….light always shined on the darkness and things would end up working out because God is so much greater!

Back to my Daddy God…He WANTS to see me happy and full of life. He knows what triggers that joy. He knows what I need to equip me for all the plans He has for me. He knows what will hinder my walk – what leads me off the path.  He guides me away from those things. He gently nudges me back on the right path if I don’t listen or wander off. He is a good daddy, a good father, a good teacher, a good friend, a loving God and He is my number one fan!  He is YOUR number one fan!

But those who won’t care for their relatives, especially those in their own household, have denied the true faith. Such people are worse than unbelievers. – 1 Timothy 5:8 (God WILL take care of His children – His family – or His word says He would be worse than an unbeliever!)

Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our ENJOYMENT. – 1 Timothy 6:17

It’s October 31st….the day of Evil!

Tonight….as soon as the sun goes down, little “witches” and “ghosts” and “zombies” will be flooding our streets and even showing up on our door steps!  What do we do?  Turn off the lights and pretend we’re not home!  How do we hide from those scary little princesses, superheroes, and Dora the Explorers?

Wait….how about we don’t!  What if we were to let our light shine!
In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. – Matthew 5:16

THIS is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24
The Bible doesn’t say that God created everyday EXCEPT October 31st.  So why are Christians dreading this day and calling it the day of evil?  We have allowed the enemy to claim a day as HIS by giving it over to him! I say it’s time to take it back!

My family has always celebrated October 31st by putting our Christmas tree up!  This year, we decided to put it up early so that we can be outside in our front yard blessing all those little goblins that show up!  I’m getting so excited just thinking about it!  Our house will be shining! We will have our Christmas inflatables set up, games for the kids to play, candy, a snow machine and a prayer box!

We will be praying that each kid and parent walks away feeling the love of Jesus!

But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” – Matthew 19:14

The Lord is faithful; He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.2 Thessalonians 3:3

I’m A College Student At Charis Bible College OKC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10670248_722565817827421_6258780541315289730_nYes, it’s true!  I’m a college student!  I never was much for school so this is a pretty big deal for me.  In high school I just did what I had to, to get by and I most certainly never had ANY desire to go to college.  (I even talked my daughter OUT of going to college).  Once I graduated high school I never planned to step into another classroom ever again!

Now here I am at 40 years young and I’m attending Charis Bible College right along side my husband, daughter, son-in-law, mother, stepdad, and 2 cousins!  I am living a dream!  Granted it’s only been a dream of mine for about a year now….but still!

I thought as soon as I began being filled up with the Word, I would be exploding my blog with posts but it’s now been almost 2 months since my last blog!  My only explanation is that I’ve been so consumed with such amazing teachings that I can’t narrow anything down to one little blog!

God has been doing so much  in these last couple months but one thing I have really learned and want to share with you is this:  I believe God has been telling me, “When YOU want to speak….don’t.  Wait….then wait some more….and watch ME move”.  When I have taken heed to this, amazing things have happened.  When I go ahead and speak for myself….it hardly ever turns out good!  I’m learning that quiet is better….and it keeps me from having to yank that foot out of my mouth all the time too!

I can’t wait to share some of what I have learned at Charis.  Right now though….I’m just listening and waiting…for what God wants me to share with you.

By the way….if you’re looking for a way to go deeper in God’s word…I highly suggest Charis Bible College!  (I put the link below).

“Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.” – James 1:19

“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” Psalm 46:10

cookieI was sitting across from a 2 year old little boy and his grandpa the other day.  They were eating and his grandpa said, “Wow, he’s really good…he’s eating all the other stuff and hasn’t even touched his cookie!”  His mom looks over at him and grins.  She says, “That’s only because he hasn’t tasted it yet.”

As soon as she said it, immediately something dropped in my Spirit.  I saw that cookie as the Word of God.  It’s there…it’s RIGHT THERE for any of us to grab a hold of and enjoy.  Yet so many people aren’t experiencing how delightful it is because they just haven’t tasted it yet. They just don’t know.   So his grandpa put it in front of his grandson’s mouth and said, “Here try this, it’s really good!”

As believers, that’s what we need to be doing…we need to be putting the Word of God in front of people and telling them how great it is.  Show them God’s promises and provisions.  Don’t just sling around “Thou shalt not this, thou shalt not that”.    People need to know how GOOD God’s word is or they won’t have any desire to taste it.

I’m pretty sure once he got a hold of that cookie, nothing else on that plate was going to taste quite as good!

“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!” – Psalms 34:8

who am iIs it just me or has anyone else never understood, but just accepted the fact that God says He is, “I AM”?  It’s never made sense to me, yet I’ve never questioned it.  So this morning, I asked God what He meant by that and all of a sudden He answered it with all of these questions…and answers.

Who is your creator? I am.
Who is your provider? I am.
Who is your protector? I am.
Who is the love of your life? I am.
Who is always going to be there for you? I am.
Who is your comforter? I am.
Who is your leader and your guide? I am.
Who is your healer? I am.
Who is your source of life? I am.
Who is completely trustworthy? I am.
Who is your teacher? I am.
Who is your supplier? I am.
Who is your husband? I am.
Who is your father? I am.
Who is your strength? I am.
Who is the living one? I am.
Who is the one who holds the keys of death and the grave? I am.
Who is alive forever and ever? I am.
Who is love? I am.
Who is rich? I am.
Who is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? I am.
Who is the one who satisfies? I am.
Who is your everything? I am.
Who is the Alpha and the Omega – the beginning and the end? I am.
Who is, who always was and who is still to come? I am.
So….needless to say, I believe I understand it now.  Thank You Father for being the GREAT I AM!

“For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory.”Psalms 32:7

“God replied to Moses, “I am who I am. Say this to the people of Israel: I am has sent me to you.”Exodus 3:14

“I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,”[e] says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.”Revelation 1:8

“Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.”Revelation 1:18

“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”Philippians 4:19

“The people will play flutes and sing, “The source of my life springs from Jerusalem!”Psalms 87:7

caringHave you ever beat yourself up over what other people think of you?  It may be just because they looked at you wrong,  or quit talking to you all of a sudden, or worse yet…they didn’t like your FACEBOOK status!

Maybe you have been racking your brain trying to figure out what you did and what to do to make it better.  Maybe you think, “If they only knew my heart”.

Well, would you believe that caring about what people think of you may just be a plan of the enemy?  It could actually paralyze you from doing the things God has called you to.  There are so many people in our lives it would be impossible to please them all anyway.  So why do we keep trying?  Instead, let’s focus on pleasing just ONE….not just ANYONE, but THE One.

1 Thessalonians 2:4 says, ” For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News.  Our purpose is to please God, not people. He ALONE examines the motives of our hearts.”

Now with that being said, does it mean we can go about doing and saying whatever we want to people because it doesn’t matter what they think of us?  Of course not.   That’s why this verse is so important.  Psalms 139:23-24 which says, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends You, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”

We should care SO much about people that what they think of US, doesn’t matter.

lillyYesterday our Proverbs 31 lady group had a Christmas and Canvas party!  It was awesome!  When deciding on what the group should paint, first I was thinking we could all do a step-by-step of the same painting but then thought about how all of our homes are different and I wanted it to be something they could take home and display.

So then I thought we could all decide our own color background and then paint the initial of our last name on it.  However, that would still limit their own creativity.  When it finally came down to it, I said…here’s an idea, but everyone just be free to do whatever!

The results were astounding!

Looking through their paintings made me think of how God created all of us so differently.   Each of them were a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that came from within the hearts of these young women.

The designs were chosen to reflect their their lives, and the colors, to fit perfectly in their homes.

We are all God’s canvas’ and He has handcrafted each and everyone of us from within Him.  We are individually designed for His purpose and His plan for our lives.

We weren’t created to be identical to one another with the same gifts, talents, looks, or even financial status. However, just like these paintings, we were all created with LOVE and to serve a purpose… which is to be a reflection of our Creator!

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.” – Psalms 139:13
” God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” – Genesis 1:27

give thanksHave you ever wondered, “How can I give thanks to God?” Psalm 119:7 says, “As I learn your righteous regulations, I will THANK YOU by living as I should.”

So we show gratitude towards God when we are living as we should. How should we live?

1. Believe in Jesus and receive what He has done for you.
2. Listen to the Holy Spirit as He directs your steps.
3. Love everyone.

Boom! You’ve made yourself a living thank you card to God.

change-your-priorities-and-you-change-your-life-zero-deanOur family was watching a movie last night called “Mercy Rule” and there was a part that really stuck out to me. The husband makes a huge mistake and he goes to his wife and says, “I ruined everything”.  She responds with, “Who is she?”. “What?” he says,  and she repeats “Who is she?” He finally understands what she’s thinking and says, “No! What? Stop it! No!”.  She replies, “So not ‘everything’.

His idea of everything was his business, his wealth, his livelihood. Her idea of everything was their marriage, their family, their health.

Ever felt like you have ruined everything?  That you have just messed up so bad that your life is over?  That no one could ever love you, think about you, or even look at you?  Just to realize the next day that you were wrong?  But then you mess up a week later and you have that same feeling all over again.

It’s all about perspective and priorities (Your point of view on what’s important).

If the most important thing to you is pleasing people.  Then yes, you will ruin YOUR everything.  You can’t please everyone (and keep your dignity) it’s just not possible.

If the most important thing to you is your boyfriend/girlfriend or even your husband/wife and they leave you, then yes YOUR everything will be ruined.

If the most important thing to you is your looks and something happens that changes that, then yes YOUR everything will be ruined.

If the most important thing to you is a sport and you’re seriously injured, then yes YOUR everything will be ruined.

If the most important thing to you is having money and you lose the career you thought you’d always have, then yes YOUR everything will be ruined.

When we put things in perspective it can completely change the way we look at life all together.  What is the big picture?  What is our purpose of being here on this earth?  You have no idea?  Let me share it with you.  To spread the good news of Jesus Christ.

So think about it.  If the most important thing to you is your relationship with Jesus and telling others about Him, when you disappoint someone, you’ve ruined nothing.  When you go through a break up with someone, you’ve ruined nothing.  If you get dog ugly (at least you think you are) you’ve ruined nothing.  If you’re no longer the world’s greatest athlete, you’ve ruined nothing.  If you’re broke, penniless, out on the STREET, you’ve STILL ruined nothing.

So seriously, what could you do that could possibly ruin EVERYTHING?  Two definitions of everything are, “All things” and “Life in general”.  Can you really ruin all things or life in general?

Even in the case of the husband and wife in the movie.  The wife definitely had a better outlook on “everything”.  Her husband cheating on her would have affected a lot of things, but even THAT could have been fixed by the grace of God.

So next time you feel like you’ve ruined everything.  Step back from the situation, take a deep breath, feel your heart beat and ask yourself if you have a relationship with Jesus.  If you do, you have been completely forgiven of EVERYTHING and He has awesome plans for you!  Go out and spread the good news!

Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise His holy name. Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things He does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s! – Psalm 103:1-5

k0982255My friend sent me a text today and asked for prayer for protection over her husband.  About an hour later I opened my Bible to some highlighted verses in Psalms.  The words, “I will rescue those who love me and I will protect those who trust in my name” shouted at me from the page.  I knew this was a good chapter for my friend to read just as a reminder to her that her prayer was already answered because she was coming in agreement with God’s word.

If you have asked Jesus into your life, the Holy Spirit is living inside of you, guiding you’re every step.  He can even keep you from “hurting your foot on a stone”.  Some may say, “well that’s just because they weren’t looking where they were going” or “they’re just clumsy”.

Well I believe it’s because they didn’t listen to that still, small voice that said, “move to the right (or left)” or “don’t go that way”.  Think about it…how many times has something happened and you said, “Duh!  I KNEW I shouldn’t have…” Or “I KNEW I should have…” You KNEW it because you heard the Holy Spirit warn you, you just didn’t pay attention to it.

Please don’t get me wrong. Don’t read this as a slap in the face reminder of when you didn’t pay attention.  We are not supposed to look back at each others failures reminding them of their wrongs.  Instead we are to encourage each other in the Word, so that we may look forward to walking the path God has laid out for us.

This isn’t a “Look at what you DID!” lesson, but rather a “Look at what you HAVE!” reminder.  “His faithful promises are your armor and protection.”

Psalms 91
1 Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 This I declare of the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I am trusting Him. 3 For He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from the fatal plague. 4 He will shield you with his wings. He will shelter you with his feathers. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. 5 Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor fear the dangers of the day, 6 nor dread the plague that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. 7 Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you. 8 But you will see it with your eyes; you will see how the wicked are punished. 9 If you make the LORD your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, 10 no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your dwelling. 11 For He orders his angels to protect you wherever you go. 12 They will hold you with their hands to keep you from striking your foot on a stone. 13 You will trample down lions and poisonous snakes; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet! 14 The LORD says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. 15 When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue them and honor them. 16 I will satisfy them with a long life and give them my salvation.”

tdadYes, I’m one of those parents who sees their kid in a situation and says “Wait!  I have to get a picture of this first!”.  This day at     Chic fil A was no exception.

It was time to go so I told my daughter to  get her brother so we could leave.  She came back and said, “He can’t come”.  I said, “what do you mean, he can’t come?”  She said, “He’s stuck”.  He had been climbing up on the top of the slide (where he wasn’t supposed to) and slipped down into this tight spot he couldn’t get out of.  Poor guy was trying so hard but because he had his socks on, he just couldn’t get out.  I even tried to get him out and I couldn’t.  However, his big strong daddy was there and was able to lift him up with no problem.

Moral of the story….sometimes we get ourselves in situations we shouldn’t be in and aren’t able to go where God wants us to because of it.  Praise God we have a loving Father who cares about us and is always there to help us out.

“But God is my helper. The Lord keeps me alive!” – Psalm 54:4

(Disclaimer: I received my son’s permission to post this.)

wpid-Photo-Aug-13-2013-914-PMDavid didn’t always have it together, he didn’t always do things right but he most certainly had his head on straight and his heart in the right place in Psalms 9 when he sang,I will praise You, Lord, with all my heart;  I will tell of all the marvelous things You have done.  I will be filled with joy because of YOU.  I will sing praises to Your name, O Most High.”.

We give ourselves so much praise and accolades that I believe we completely overlook or fail to remember the fact that God Himself has created EVERYTHING.  He sent Jesus Christ (Himself) to make a way for eternal life AND sent the Holy Spirit to fill us and direct our paths.  He has done all the good FOR us.  “Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.” – James 1:17    Quite frankly, the only thing we can really give ourselves credit for, is screwing up but who wants to own up to that?

When I wake up in the morning and my heart is overwhelmed with joy, I have to know that it comes from the the love of Jesus inside me, that free gift that God gave all of us.  If I think it’s because of something great I did the day before, it’s a false sense of joy that isn’t going to last.  I’m not perfect, but Jesus is and He deserves all praise. And if my joy comes from the praises of family and friends or because of what they did for me, that’s not going to last either.

Father, I pray that I would only give my praises and accolades to the One who deserves them, You!  It’s not about me…never was.  In Jesus’ name, I pray. AMEN

ForkinRoadHow long will we walk around as wicked sinners? We make fun of the Israelites for making an 11 day journey last 40 years but how long will it or did it take us to get off the path of destruction?  Are you worthless chaff (useless trash) ready to be condemned with the rest of the wicked or have you taken the new path amongst the godly allowing God to watch over your path? Seriously, it’s your choice which path you will walk. I chose the one Jesus opened up for me and I pray you do too. Don’t spend the rest of your life lost in the wilderness.

“But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly. For the Lord watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.” – Psalms 1:4-6 NLT

10-commandmentsI read this verse in Psalm 119:2 and it says, “Joyful are those who obey His laws and search for Him with all their hearts.” and I thought about how obeying God’s laws isn’t bondage or just rules we have to follow but they are so good for us. Following them would give you total peace.

You wouldn’t be looking over your shoulder all the time worried about being caught because you lied about something or because you hurt someone or stole something (or someone). You wouldn’t be upset because you don’t have something that someone else has. You wouldn’t be tired or stressed because you’re letting yourself rest. You wouldn’t be misusing God’s name or worshiping others and then feel too ashamed to call upon Him because you were speaking badly about Him that same day.

Without all the worry and fear that sin causes, you would have more time to search for Him with all your heart and become one with God. You would be refreshed, renewed and encouraged by His Word. Full of hope, joy, love and peace.

p080One of the wise ones that I enjoy listening to is our Pastor and lately he has been talking about meditating on the Word, not just reading it. So I began doing that more and more. I’m still reading it, but I’m also meditating on certain verses and this one has been with me for a couple days, Psalms 1:3 “They (those who delight in the law of the Lord meditating on it day and night Psalm 1:2) are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”

I keep getting stuck on these two words, “each season” and in other translations, “in it’s season”. So I thought, okay, no wonder we go through some seasons that seem dry, it’s not the season. But I go back to the meaning of spiritual fruit which is (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control) and obviously we should have all of those things in us and coming out of us in ALL SEASONS. Seriously have been going back and forth on this with God and I believe I’m finally beginning to understand it better.

There are stages that a fruit tree goes through. The new leaves (taking in the Word, renewing your mind). The beautiful bloom that comes forth (the way Jesus begins to change you). The fruit that is produced (your heart being filled with love, joy peace, etc). Then the ripening of the fruit (where that love is so good, so real, that others want to have it). In this cycle though, the leaves don’t die off because you keep taking in that living water and the leaves stay fresh and the fruit begins to grow again but each time with a bigger harvest. There doesn’t have to be a season of “dormancy”. I believe this cycle is repeated daily so yes, it is “in it’s season” but all four seasons happen in a 24 hour period if you are daily allowing God’s living water to flow through you.
